Update On The New Virus In China. Beijing Is Now Under The Threat Of The New Coronavirus Strain.

Over the weekend, Chinese Health Authorities reported 139 new cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus strain in the cities of Beijing, Shenzhen, and Wuhan.


This is the first time coronavirus has been found in China outside of Wuhan, where it initially appeared. A third individual was confirmed dead on Saturday, according to the authority.

Chinese health officials verified two instances in Beijing and one case in Shenzhen. All three patients are thought to have visited Wuhan, according to officials.

Since the virus was discovered last month in Wuhan, the overall number of infected people has more than quadrupled to more than 200. The spread of the coronavirus to other cities in China raises concerns ahead of the Lunar New Year vacation, when hundreds of millions of Chinese are scheduled to travel both domestically and abroad.

One case has been verified in Japan, two in Thailand, and one in South Korea. They are either from Wuhan or have been there.

Researchers Found an Indicator of Severity of COVID-19. Soluble Circulating Protein May Be the Clue.

A new study published on April 30, 2020 in Journal Critical Care   indicated that the protein soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) may assist researchers anticipate who is likely to have more severe COVID-19 symptoms. In other words, suPAR may be regarded as a proxy measure of COVID-19 severity. The researchers examined data from 57 patients at Greece's University of Athens Medical School and 5 COVID-19 patients at Rush University Medical Center. They discovered that patients with greater amounts of suPAR in their blood needed intubation sooner than individuals with lower levels of suPAR. This is the first publication to suggest that suPAR is higher in COVID-19 and may be indicative of COVID-19 severity.
